Water Main Replacement Project Begins in San Mateo

Water Main Replacement Project in San MateoCal Water has begun construction on an important water infrastructure upgrade in central San Mateo that will strengthen reliability and resiliency for local customers and improve fire protection capabilities for first responders.

The project, which is expected to be completed in mid-September 2021, includes the installation of 4,133 feet of 8-inch water main along El Dorado and 10th avenues to replace aging 4-inch main installed in the 1930s and 1940s, plus 138 new 1-inch individual customer service connections. Crews are also installing nine new fire hydrants to ensure firefighters have access to the water supply they need to protect the community in an emergency.

“At Cal Water, we continue to make proactive investments in our infrastructure to ensure customers and first responders have a safe, clean, and reliable water supply for their everyday and emergency needs,” said Ross Moilan, Cal Water’s Bayshore District Manager. “This water system upgrade reinforces our commitment to providing quality, service, and value to the central San Mateo community.”

Crews will work to minimize traffic delays and any other temporary inconvenience during construction, which will take place Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Following installation, crews will conduct water quality testing and connect individual customer service connections to the new water main. All streets, sod, and landscaping impacted by the construction will be restored to as close to the previous condition as possible.
