Upgrades Completed in Compton and Carson

Cal Water completed two water infrastructure upgrades this month that help support water supply reliability and fire protection in southwest Compton and east Carson.

In southwest Compton, crews installed a new well that can draw up to 2,000 gallons per minute to help increase water supply for thousands of customers and first responders in the area, including Compton Fire Station 4 and California State University, Dominguez Hills. This new groundwater well will be the 9th active well in Cal Water’s Dominguez water system.

Meanwhile, in east Carson, crews wrapped up construction of a new water treatment plant that will help Cal Water continue to deliver safe, clean drinking water that meets all state and federal safety standards. The treatment plant is granular-activated carbon—the first of its kind in Cal Water’s Dominguez water system.

“Maintaining a reliable supply of safe and clean water is a commitment that we don’t take lightly. We’re proud to provide our customers high-quality water for their everyday needs and help support our firefighters by providing sufficient water supplies as they protect our communities,” said Ralph Felix, Rancho Dominguez District Manager. “Proactive infrastructure improvements help keep water costs more affordable in the long run, so our customers still pay about a penny per gallon.”

Both projects were completed near the intersection of Wilmington Avenue and Walnut Street.
