Zone 7 Water Agency, the wholesale water supplier that provides water to Livermore-area water utilities, is asking Tri-Valley residents and businesses to voluntarily limit their outdoor water use for six days starting on Saturday, June 27. During this time, the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) will perform planned maintenance on State Water Project facilities that supply water to the region.
During the six-day infrastructure maintenance period, from June 27 through July 2, water deliveries to the area will be temporarily reduced. Although Zone 7 will continue supplying water to local water utilities for their customers through July 2 using locally stored, imported supplies and local groundwater resources, water users’ voluntary efforts to limit outdoor water use will help preserve water supplies for essential needs. Such needs include drinking, cooking, sanitation, and firefighting.
Individuals and businesses willing to reduce their outdoor water use can prepare their properties before June 27 for the maintenance period by doing the following:
• Deep watering landscapes using multiple, short irrigation cycles.
• Topping off swimming pools.
• Using pool covers to reduce evaporation.
• Checking for and repairing leaks.
• Turning off automatic irrigation systems.
During the voluntary conservation period, residents and businesses may also consider the following ways to save water every day:
• Avoid watering residential lawns and landscapes.
• Avoid washing vehicles at home.
• Avoid filling or refilling swimming pools.
• Avoid power washing or hosing-off surfaces.
• Avoid other non-essential outdoor water uses.
