Cal Water’s Bayshore District is inviting customers, community partners, and local residents to a customer appreciation celebration, as the company marks 100 years of serving California communities. Entry and all food and activities are free of charge.
The family-friendly event will serve as a thank you to customers who have enabled Cal Water to be a part of their lives for generations. Festivities will take place on Sunday, Oct. 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the College of San Mateo’s Plaza of the Sun Amphitheater, located at 1700 W. Hillsdale Blvd. in San Mateo.
“Water plays such an important role in everyday life, whether it’s making coffee in the morning, running a local business, or providing firefighters the water they need to protect us in an emergency,” said Ross Moilan, Cal Water’s Bayshore District Manager. “We’re grateful to our customers for enabling us to serve their families, homes, and businesses and be part of the moments that have shaped this community.”
Guests will enjoy a fall festival-themed event with facepainting, a corn maze, live music, food, refreshments, and giveaways—including drought-tolerant plants, and be able to enter for a chance to win a water-efficient washing machine. Attendees will also meet members of the local team, get an up-close look at a section of water main, and have the chance to learn about smart meter technology and how customers will benefit from it when it is deployed across the Bayshore District over the next three years.
Founded in 1926 by three World War I veterans, Cal Water has grown from serving four California communities to serving more than 20 districts in the state, from Chico in the north down to the South Bay of Los Angeles. The company is celebrating a century of service by thanking customers and highlighting the local team’s continued commitment to delivering safe, clean, reliable water.
Cal Water’s Bayshore District was formed in 1931 through the purchase of the South San Francisco Water Company, the San Carlos Water Company, and the San Mateo water system from Pacific Water Company. Today, Cal Water serves Bayshore District customers with water purchased from the City and County of San Francisco as well as through five groundwater wells. Over the last decade, Cal Water has invested more than $145 million in Bayshore infrastructure improvements to keep service safe and reliable, including water main replacements, treatment facility upgrades, storage tank and well improvements, pumps, and fire hydrants.
“For a century, customers have counted on Cal Water through changing times and challenging conditions,” said Moilan, noting that Cal Water worked around the clock to keep water flowing for customers through some of the most challenging periods in California and U.S. history—the Great Depression, World War II, earthquakes, droughts, and the global pandemic. “We’re equally excited to share how continued infrastructure investments and new technologies, such as smart water meters, will help us meet our customers’ needs for the next 100 years.”
