Cal Water has begun a water infrastructure upgrade in Lucerne that will help strengthen water supply reliability and fire protection for local customers.
The project, which started earlier this month and is expected to be completed in September, includes installation of approximately 955 feet of new six-inch water main. Crews are working to install the new main in the following areas:
- 13th Avenue, between East Highway 20 and Country Club Drive
- Between 12th and 13th avenues (in the alleyway)
“Infrastructure upgrades like this are an investment in meeting Lucerne’s everyday water needs and enhancing emergency readiness,” said Tavis Beynon, Redwood Valley District Manager. “By proactively replacing and upgrading water mains, we can help maintain safe, reliable service for customers, support firefighters, and reduce the likelihood of more disruptive repairs in the future.”
Crews will perform the majority of work Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Some night or weekend construction may be required, and nearby customers will be notified when scheduled after-hours work is needed.
Construction is expected to take approximately 10 to 12 weeks, weather permitting. Cal Water crews will make every effort to minimize traffic delays during construction.
After installation, crews will flush the water lines and collect water quality samples before connecting individual water services to the new main. Temporary service interruptions will be required when customer services are connected and the new main is placed into service; however, customers will be notified before any planned shutdowns.
Temporary asphalt will be applied until permanent paving is completed, which can be up to 30 days after project completion. This waiting period allows the trench to fully compact, helping provide a smoother road surface.
The project is part of Cal Water’s ongoing commitment to responsibly invest in and maintain critical water infrastructure. Proactive improvements such as this help reduce future service interruptions, enhance fire protection, and continue providing safe, clean, reliable drinking water to the community.
