Summary: We have installed water leak detection sensors in strategic locations on the Cal Water distribution system.
Current status: Crews installed 60 sensors in September and October
Water leak detection sensors have been installed in strategic locations on the Cal Water distribution system. These sensors use acoustics to “listen” for potential water leak noise during overnight hours, when ambient noise (from people and traffic) is minimal. This way, there is a potential to identify water main leaks before they are visible.
- In September 2023, 35 sensors were installed as phase 1 of this project.
- We installed 5 more sensors as part of phase 2 in early October while awaiting shipment of additional sensors.
- Crews installed another 25 sensors the week of October 18.
