Water Main Replacements Beginning in PBCA

Water main installation in progress on Vanderlip DriveInstallation of the new water main on Vanderlip Drive has begun! Crews broke ground on the above-ground water main replacement project on May 13, first grading the street to prepare for the new main. We expect to complete construction in three to five weeks, dependent primarily upon continued land movement, after which we will conduct pressure and water quality testing before connecting the new main to the system. On May 14, crews also realigned a section of the existing water main on Vanderlip Drive to help reduce the incidence of leaks on this street due to the significant land movement, until the new main is put into service.

When the construction crew has completed work on this street, the team plans to begin installation of the new above-ground main for the community-wide Portuguese Bend Community Association water main replacement project. Here, we expect to install approximately 9,500 feet of water main throughout the neighborhood, with portions underground where required to cross driveways or roadways.

Other landslide-area main replacement projects:

  • Vanderlip Trail—in final design
  • Western Seaview—in final design
  • PV Drive South, between Seaview & Portuguese Bend Beach Club—design completed, preparing for construction
  • Portuguese Bend Beach Club, between Yacht Harbor Drive and PV Drive South—in design

Booster Connection Restoring Water Service Faster to PBCA Residents During Main Repairs

Since our last newsletter, crews completed the installation of a portable booster connection on Narcissa Drive. This connection enables us to move water from the adjacent neighborhood into the Portuguese Bend Community Association during large shutdowns, in an effort to keep the majority of the neighborhood in water during main repairs. Crews have already utilized the booster connection several times to reduce water service outages to customers.
