New Water Mains in Landslide Areas Completed and in Service
Crews recently completed installation and testing of the new, above-ground water mains along Clovetree Place in the Portuguese Bend Community Association, and along Palos Verdes Drive South near Wayfarers Chapel. Both mains are now tied into the water system and in service.
Portable Booster Installation Begins to Help Keep PBCA Customers in Water During Main Repairs
Historically, when leaks have occurred in certain parts of the Portuguese Bend Community Association, Cal Water has had to temporarily interrupt water service to most or all of the neighborhood in order to make repairs. Crews recently completed design plans to install a portable booster connection on Narcissa Drive, which will enable crews to minimize water service outages to customers while completing repair work going forward. Construction began this week and is expected to be completed next week.
Above-Ground Main Shored Up in Seaview Amid Storms
Recent storms at the end of March washed away some of the soil under a portion of the above-ground water main along Dauntless Drive in Seaview, leaving parts of the main floating. Cal Water’s crews added support under the water main to keep it stable and prevent a break from occurring, an especially delicate situation with more rain on the way that weekend.
Other Main Installation Projects in Progress
Since our last newsletter, Engineering crews and a geotechnical consultant conducted a site walk along Vanderlip Drive and Trail to assess the approximately 1,000-feet main replacement alignment in this area. Final design is underway.
In the Portuguese Bend Beach Club, crews held a site walk as part of their evaluation for the water main replacement between Yacht Harbor Drive and Palos Verdes Drive South. We also continue to assess a possible water main replacement along PV Drive South between the Seaview and Beach Club neighborhoods.
Design work continues on the water main replacement for the rest of western Seaview, where we plan to install about 8,000 feet of water main. Design also continues for the water main installation project on Narcissa Drive and surrounding streets in the Portuguese Bend Community Association, where we plan to install about 9,500 feet of new main. The preliminary designs showing pipeline placement and details were submitted on schedule for both neighborhoods and are currently in review.
