COMMERCE, Calif.— California Water Service (Cal Water) has begun a water infrastructure improvement project in its East Los Angeles District to replace and install new water mains. These new mains will enable the utility to meet the increasing demand for water in the area and support system reliability.
Crews will install approximately 6,300 feet of 20-inch water mains on Westside Drive, from Ferguson Drive to Findlay Avenue. The pipes will be made of ductile iron, which is resilient and has a long lifespan. Work is expected to be completed by the end of February 2018. All construction will be scheduled Mondays through Fridays between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
“This project will help ensure that the community has access to the water it needs for generations to come,” said Interim District Manager Jim Crawford. “During construction, we will do everything possible to be a good neighbor and minimize any temporary impacts to nearby customers and motorists. We appreciate the community’s support as we make this important water system upgrade.”
Cal Water serves approximately 26,800 service connections in East Los Angeles and about 2 million people through 480,300 service connections in California. The utility has provided water service in the area since 1928.
