Cal Water was named Business of the Year by the City of Salinas for the water utility’s dedication and involvement to the local community. The award was presented recently by Salinas Mayor Joe Gunter and Assemblymember Luis Alejo at the annual Los Olivios-Riker Home Owners Association (LORNA) neighborhood fair.
“This award represents so much more than Cal Water’s stewardship and good deeds for our neighborhoods,” said Councilman Steve McShane. “It represents our local water utility doing good deeds for the city as a whole.”
As part of Cal Water’s commitment to improving the quality of life in the communities it serves, Cal Water actively supports the Salinas community. In the past year, Cal Water has sponsored the Boys and Girls Club of Monterey County’s Comics for Kids annual fundraiser, Salinas Chapter of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, Ciclovía Salinas, California Rodeo, California International Airshow, and Hartnell College Western Stage Gala.
“Customers know that Cal Water is a good neighbor and that we are there to support them,” said Brenda Granillo, Interim District Manager. “They have a lot of questions about water and conservation and they know that we are there to provide quality, service, and value.”
At the LORNA fair, Cal Water distributed information on rates, conservation rebates and tools, and low-income programs. Upcoming events at which Cal Water will have a presence are National Night Out at the Constitution Soccer Fields on Aug. 2 and the Salinas Valley Food and Wine Festival on Aug. 13. Organizations interested in contacting Cal Water about their upcoming events should contact local Customer Service Manager James Magdaleno.
