Cal Water has started a water infrastructure upgrade in the “core area” of Dixon that will strengthen water system reliability and infrastructure resiliency while also enhancing local fire protection for city customers.
Cal Water is performing this upgrade as part of its partnership with the City of Dixon to help upgrade and temporarily support its water service area as the city established its new water department. The project, which is expected to take approximately three months to complete, includes the installation of 1,400 feet of new 6- and 8-inch PVC water main and 31 new individual service lines from the water main to customers’ water meters. Additionally, crews will replace two existing fire hydrants and install one new, additional fire hydrant.
“This water infrastructure improvement project will ensure residents and businesses in the core area of Dixon continue to receive safe and reliable water service for their everyday needs and first responders have the resources they need to protect the community during an emergency,” said Cal Water Local Manager Jack Caldwell. “We’re glad we’re able to assist the City of Dixon and provide quality, service, and value to the city and its customers, just as we are committed to doing day in and day out for our customers.”
The installation will take place on Walnut Park Avenue, from North Fifth Street to Doyle Lane, and on North Sixth Street, from Walnut Park Avenue to East C Street. The work will be performed Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Crews will backfill trenches daily with temporary asphalt to keep motorists and residents safe, and also make every effort to minimize traffic delays during construction.
Water quality testing will be conducted at the completion of the project. After test results are returned, water service will be temporarily interrupted while individual service lines are connected to the new water main. Residents will be notified in advance of any planned shutdowns, which are normally scheduled between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. At the conclusion of the project, crews will restore all streets, sod, and landscaping impacted by the construction to as close to the previous condition as possible.
