Mike Mares, Former Bakersfield District Manager, Promoted to Vice President of Operations
Cal Water announced today that it has selected Geoff Fulks to lead the utility’s Bakersfield District as its new District Manager. Fulks succeeds Mike Mares, who was recently promoted to Vice President of Operations.
Fulks, who has been with Cal Water for 10 years, has extensive hands-on knowledge of water distribution, operations, and treatment systems. He served as the Assistant District Manager for Bakersfield since February 2017 and is familiar with the district’s water system and members of the community. Fulks’ previous Cal Water roles as a Utility Worker, Relief Certified Pump Operator, Inspector, Superintendent, Cross-Connection Control Specialist, Water Quality Program Manager, and Local Manager have given him comprehensive experience to lead the district, according to Mares. Fulks holds Water Treatment Grade Three and Water Distribution Grade Five certifications and is also certified in Backflow Prevention and Cross-Connection Control from the American Water Works Association. He also has a Bachelor of Science in business administration from the University of Arizona.
“Geoff’s strong technical background and strategic thinking will serve the residents and businesses of Bakersfield well into the future,” said Mares. “His commitment to the improving the quality of life in our community will ensure Cal Water continues to provide quality, service, and value to our customers, both for their everyday and emergency needs.”
Mares, who served as the Bakersfield District Manager since January 2017, was selected as the Vice President of Operations for Cal Water’s parent company, California Water Service Group, in December 2018.
