Mary Jones, Twelve-Year Marysville District Employee, to Oversee Day-to-Day Operations
Cal Water has selected its Willows Manager Evan Markey to also lead the utility’s Marysville and Redwood Valley Districts. Markey succeeds Local Manager Rob Thompson, who transitioned into a management role in another Cal Water district earlier this month.
Markey, who has served as Cal Water’s Willows Local Manager since May 2017, has been with Cal Water for 11 years and has extensive hands-on knowledge of water distribution, operations, and treatment systems. He started his Cal Water career in the utility’s Chico District as a Laborer and subsequently worked as an Operation Maintenance Worker, Meter Reader, Conservation Coordinator, and Superintendent. Markey has Water Treatment Grade Two and Water Distribution Grade Three certifications from the State Water Resources Control Board. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
According to Director of Field Operations Mike Jones, Cal Water chose to have Markey oversee all three districts to reduce the utility’s headcount and utilize employee resources as optimally as possible.
To support day-to-day operations, Cal Water has selected Mary Jones (no relation to Mike Jones) to serve as the Marysville Operations Manager. Mary Jones started her Cal Water career in the Marysville District in February 2007 as a Customer Service Representative. She has also worked as the Customer Service Manager and Foreman, and has Water Treatment Grade Two and Water Distribution Grade Three certifications from the State Water Resources Control Board.
“Evan serves the Willows community very well and will continue that effort in his new role in Marysville with the support of Mary, who brings local operational knowledge,” Mike Jones said. “They understand the water issues and social needs in a smaller community and will utilize that same knowledge and expertise to ensure we always provide quality, service, and value to our Marysville customers.”
