As part of its commitment to sustainability, Cal Water’s new Bayshore District Customer and Field Operations Center in San Mateo, Calif., has earned the prestigious Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
LEED certification, a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement, is the most widely used green building rating system in the world. It provides a framework to create highly efficient and cost-saving green buildings.
The new center, located at 341 North Delaware St. in San Mateo, opened in November 2017 and features water-efficient landscaping, optimized energy performance, and improved air quality and storm water management. On-site services available to customers include walk-in account assistance, water conservation information, and an electric vehicle charging station. The facility also offers public and alternative transportation access, provides a safer, ergonomics-focused environment for employees, and is equipped to serve as a fully functional Emergency Operations Center.
“We are very pleased to receive this recognition for making our new Customer and Field Operations Center as sustainable as possible. The LEED silver certification highlights our commitment to doing the right thing for our community and the environment,” said District Manager Ross Moilan. “The effort we have put into this new green facility will help us better serve our customers while improving our readiness for emergency response.”
