Cal Water Expands Commitment to Food Bank for Monterey County

Salinas food bankAs part of its dedication to improving the quality of life in the communities it serves, Cal Water doubled its annual commitment to the Food Bank for Monterey County (Food Bank) yesterday to help fund the charity’s new warehouse and food distribution building. With its donation, Cal Water encourages other Salinas businesses to support the food bank’s 100,000 Spoons campaign.

Cal Water District Manager Brenda Granillo presented a $5,000 check to Melissa Kendrick, Executive Director of the Food Bank, for the campaign to help pay for the facilities. In 2015, after an arsonist caused more than $1 million in damage to the Food Bank’s property, Cal Water donated $10,000 to help replenish food supplies that had been destroyed and called on other businesses to do the same at that time as well.

“The Food Bank for Monterey County provides essential services to those in need, and while we support this important organization each year, this year we want to make sure it can build the facilities needed to effectively continue serving these community members,” Granillo said. “Cal Water is more than a water provider, we are part of the communities we serve, and this donation is just part of our promise to provide quality, service, and value to our community.”
