Cal Water has completed the replacement of 900 feet of aging water mains on East Walnut Street from South Second Street to South Fifth Street to improve water supply reliability to the east Dixon community.
The original two- and four-inch cast-iron mains, which were installed in 1929 and 1947 respectively, were replaced with six-inch PVC pipe to increase flow. PVC does not rust or corrode and is considered to be more cost-effective than other alternatives.
“At Cal Water, we have a responsibility to keep our infrastructure reliable, so after this many years of service, it was time to upgrade the main,” said Local Manager Jack Caldwell. “The new main will help ensure an uninterrupted and high-quality water supply to our local customers both today and for years to come.”
