Cal Water has completed the replacement of 2,688 feet of aging water mains on Gastine Street and Petroleum, Broadwell, and Doble avenues to improve water supply reliability to the east Torrance community.
The original 4-inch concrete main, which was installed in 1949, had outlived its useful life and was replaced with six-inch PVC pipe to increase flow. PVC does not rust or corrode and is considered to be more cost-effective than other alternatives.
“At Cal Water, we pride ourselves as having infrastructure that is reliable, so after this many years of service, it was time to upgrade the main,” said Acting District Manager Dan Trejo. “The new main will help ensure an uninterrupted and high-quality water supply to our local customers both today and for years to come.”
