New Water Main Installation Starts in North Salinas
Cal Water began a water infrastructure upgrade this week in the Santa Rita neighborhood of north Salinas that will strengthen water system reliability and infrastructure resiliency for customers’ everyday needs and firefighters’ emergency needs.
This project includes the installation of 3,006 feet of new 8-inch and 6-inch PVC water main and the replacement of 65 individual customer service connections. Crews will also install two new fire hydrants and replace four existing fire hydrants as part of the project. Installation will take place on Eisenhower Street, from Van Buren Avenue to Hoover Street; on Hoover Street, from Eisenhower Street to Lenny Street; and on Lenny Street, from Hoover Street to Cleveland Avenue.
“This important infrastructure upgrade will enable us to continue to deliver a reliable supply of safe, high-quality drinking water to our customers, both now and for many years to come. Additionally, it will help first responders protect our community in the event of an emergency,” said District Manager Brenda Granillo. “Proactive upgrades such as this are a critical part of our promise to deliver quality, service, and value to Salinas residents and businesses.”
Crews will make every effort to minimize traffic delays during construction, which will be performed Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Following installation, crews will conduct water quality testing and connect individual customer service lines to the new water main. During this time, water service must be temporarily interrupted as crews connect new water main line to the existing main. Cal Water will notify residents in advance of any planned shutdowns, which are normally scheduled between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Crews will also restore all streets, sod, and landscaping impacted by the construction.
