Water Storage Tank Upgrade in Redondo Beach Begins

Cal Water began a water infrastructure upgrade today in the Oceanaire Estates subdivision of Redondo Beach that will strengthen water system reliability and infrastructure resiliency for customers’ everyday needs and firefighters’ emergency needs.

The project, which is expected to be completed in nine weeks, includes a roof repair and exterior coating on the one-million-gallon water storage tank at Cal Water’s station at Pearl Street and South Lucia Avenue.

“This important infrastructure upgrade will extend the life of the tank, help protect against leaks, and ensure we can continue to reliably deliver safe, high-quality drinking water to our customers, both now and for years to come. Additionally, the upgrade will ensure our firefighters have the water they need during emergencies,” said District Manager Dan Armendariz. “This important water system improvement project enables us to keep costs lower than if we needed to construct a new tank, which helps us fulfill o​ur promise to deliver quality, service, and value to our customers.”

Crews will make every effort to minimize excessive noise and dust during construction, which takes place Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. After construction, crews will test water quality samples to ensure the water meets all federal and state standards. There are no planned water service interruptions during this project.
