During this season of giving, Cal Water partnered with local legislators and charitable organizations on Monday, Nov. 18, 2019, to help feed and provide services to families in need. Through the utility’s annual Operation Gobble program, Cal Water donated $11,000, along with an additional $8,000 in Butterball turkey gift certificates, to ensure Salinas Valley families could enjoy a Thanksgiving meal and receive support throughout the holidays.
“Cal Water is committed to improving the lives of those in the communities we serve, and we understand the financial stress the holidays can bring for those already struggling to make ends meet,” said District Manager Brenda Granillo. “That is why, every year around this time, we find opportunities to alleviate that stress and make the holidays a little brighter here in the Salinas Valley.”
According to Granillo, Operation Gobble donations come from the utility’s philanthropic giving program, not from water rates. Donations were presented to Sun Street Center, LULAC, East Salinas Family Center, Victory Mission, First United Methodist Church, Salvation Army of Salinas, Dorothy’s Place, YWCA, Partners for Peace, Harmony at Home, Hebbron Family Center, Loaves & Fishes, and the Salvation Army of Soledad. Salinas Mayor Joe Gunter and representatives from Assemblymember Robert Rivas’ and State Senator Anna Caballero’s offices assisted with the Butterball donations.
