Los Altos Invests in Projects and Charities

NewsCal Water’s Los Altos District reaffirmed its commitment to improving the communities it serves in 2017 by donating $16,300 to local charitable organizations and investing $10,474,438 dollars in infrastructure improvement projects, including new water mains, a tank, booster pumps, and a well upgrade.

This year, the Los Altos District helped non-profits provide vital services to community members in need by donating to the West Valley Community Services, the Los Altos Community Foundation, Northwest YMCA, and other service organizations. The funds were donated as part of the utility’s philanthropic giving program and not paid for by ratepayers.

The District also partnered with the City of Los Altos and sponsored a drought-tolerant demonstration garden at Woodland Library. The garden at the library will serve as a model to community members interested in creating their own water-efficient landscapes.

In addition to providing monetary contributions, Los Altos District employees also served the community by assisting with the Kiwanis Special Games and Los Altos Hills 5K run.

“We are glad to partner with these important organizations, which provide such essential services to our community,” said District Manager Ron Richardson. “California Water Service values being able to give back to help improve the quality of life in the communities we serve.”

In 2017, the Los Altos District also replaced 9,500 feet of water mains and is slated to replace an additional 6,000 feet in the months ahead. The utility also constructed a new 130,000 bolted-steel storage tank, as the previous tank in the same location was reaching the end of its useful life and would soon be susceptible to leaks. The district also replaced three booster pumps and motors to ensure consistent water pressure throughout the system, and rehabilitated an aging well to ensure current and future water demands continue to be met.

“Our promise to our customers is to provide them with quality, service, and value. By investing in our infrastructure, we can ensure our customers continue to receive a reliable, high-quality water supply around the clock and that this promise is fulfilled for generations to come.”
