Cal Water’s Bayshore District reaffirmed its commitment to improving the communities it serves in 2017 by donating $13,700 to local charitable organizations and investing $11,295,748 dollars in infrastructure improvement projects, including new water mains, generators, storage tanks, and a Customer Center.
This year, the Bayshore District helped non-profits provide vital services to community members in need by donating to the Second Harvest Food Bank, Salvation Army, Samaritan House, and other organizations. The funds were donated as part of the utility’s philanthropic giving program and not paid for by ratepayers.
“We are glad to partner with these important organizations, which provide such essential services to our community,” said District Manager Ross Moilan. “California Water Service values being able to give back to help improve the quality of life in the communities we serve.”
In 2017, the Bayshore District built a new Customer and Operations Center, to provide a better customer experience. The District will soon install low-water use plants to enhance curb appeal. The Bayshore District also replaced 15,747 feet of water mains to improve water system reliability.
The San Mateo system received a new 4.5 million-gallon-concrete-tank and started construction on another 3-million-gallon tank to meet future water demands and to provide additional storage in the event of an emergency. Also, a booster pump station was reconstructed to improve system reliability and water pressure.
The District finished construction of a 50,000 gallon-steel-tank, which replaced an aging redwood tank in San Carlos. The new tank will provide additional storage and enhance fire-fighting capabilities. Two new generators were also installed in the area to ensure the utility is able to pump water throughout the system in the event of a power outage.
In the South San Francisco system, the district expanded the groundwater treatment plant to enhance the local water supply and reduce the reliance on costly purchased water from a third-party supplier.
“Our promise to our customers is to provide them with quality, service, and value. By investing in our infrastructure, we can ensure our customers continue to receive a reliable, high-quality water supply around the clock and that this promise is fulfilled for generations to come,” said Moilan.
Cal Water serves about 187,600 people through 53,200 service connections in San Mateo, San Carlos, and South San Francisco. The utility has provided water service in the area since 1927. Additional information may be obtained online at www.calwater.com.
