Cal Water Celebrates 90 Years of Service in Stockton

Cal Water celebrated 90 years of providing water utility service to Stockton residents and businesses at the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds with about 1,500 local residents on Sunday afternoon. The free event was planned to show appreciation for Cal Water’s customers and educate them on their water service.

District Manager John Freeman said, “We are committed to providing high-quality, reliable water service, and it’s an honor to have served the residents and businesses of Stockton for the past 90 years. We are not just a utility, we are a part of this community, and we look forward to continuing to provide the high standard of quality our customers expect and deserve.”

Cal Water partnered with the Stockton Host Lions Club to cater hot dogs and with El Dorado Market, which provided tamales and burritos. Rita’s Italian Ice and Baker’s Choice Kettle Corn provided desserts for attendees. Children received airbrush tattoos, and both kids and kids at heart played carnival games for prizes. Photo opportunities were also available with the mascots from the Stockton Heat and Ports.

As part of the utility’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the quality of life in the communities it serves, Freeman presented a $1,000 donation to the Stockton Shelter for the Homeless. Stockton City Councilmember Christina Fugazi and representatives of Senator Cathleen Galgiani and Assemblymember Susan Talamantes Eggman presented Freeman with certificates of recognition for Cal Water’s long-standing service to the community.

Twelve lucky raffle winners walked away with drought-resistant potted plants to help showcase low-water-use plants and gardening options. Cal Water engineers and conservation representatives were also on hand to help customers with water system questions and their water-saving goals.

To add to the celebration’s highlights, Polynesian dances were performed by Hiva Nui Productions and traditional karate performances were given by Tibons Goju Ryu Karate and Discovery Martial Arts. The City of Stockton Animal Shelter also provided kitten adoption services.
