Main Replacement Project in Chico to Improve Reliability

Cal Water has completed a water main replacement project in the City of Chico that will increase the flow of water, prevent leaks, enhance firefighting capabilities, and improve the overall water supply reliability of the system for customers on Salem Street, between West 12th and West 16th Streets.

Crews replaced 2,805 feet of aging 4-inch and 2-inch cast iron and 4-inch steel mains with 6-inch ductile iron pipe. During the project, Cal Water also installed one new fire hydrant to improve fire protection.

“This project was important for our team, because it eliminated areas where smaller, dual mains served customers. Now, our customers benefit from a new, single main that is exponentially more reliable,” said District Manager Pete Bonacich. “This infrastructure system improvement project is just part of our commitment to providing our Chico customers with quality, service, and value that will last for decades to come.”
