Projects to Improve Reliability in Rancho Dominguez

Two Cal Water infrastructure improvement projects are underway in the Rancho Dominguez District that include the combined installation of more than 3,300 feet of new water main in Redondo Beach. Crews will install 1,052 feet of new main along Paseo De Las Delicias and Via Buena Ventura, while 2,320 feet of new main will be laid along Via Monte D’oro, Via Los Miradores, and Calle De Cabrillo.

The older pipes will be replaced with 6-inch PVC pipes that will improve water supply reliability and firefighting capabilities in both areas. Construction will be performed Mondays through Fridays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Following construction, crews must flush the water lines to take water quality samples; however, Cal Water is committed to conservation and will flush only as long as necessary to fulfill water quality requirements, according to District Manager Dan Armendariz.

Once water quality tests are completed, crews will tie individual water service connections to the new main. During this process, Cal Water will need to temporarily interrupt water service, but customers will be notified prior to any planned shutdown. All streets, sod, and landscaping impacted by construction will be fully restored.

“Our team will work hard to minimize any temporary inconvenience for the people living in the construction area,” said Armendariz. “Our priority is to make water system improvements that ensure we can provide reliable, high-quality water service and benefit our community for decades to come.”

Both projects are expected to be completed by mid-April.
