A Cal Water project is underway to replace an aging water storage tank in the residential area of Los Altos Hills. Once the project is completed in mid-March, the new, 100,000-gallon steel tank will increase water supply reliability for customers in Los Altos and Los Altos Hills.
The storage tank replacement project also includes a complex redesign of the station and foundation to better withstand earthquakes and the high seismic activity in the area. The previous redwood tank, which was almost 60 years old, would not withstand settlement or natural disasters as well.
“Our team has been looking forward to this project, as the new design will both improve water storage and supply reliability for our customers, plus enhance the safety and efficiency of this site,” said District Manager Ron Richardson. “It’s all part of our commitment to providing our customers with quality, service, and value.”
The new steel storage tank is expected to last up to 50 years.
