Livermore water source change

Due to the impacts of the worsening drought and reduction in State Water Project water supply allocations, Cal Water’s wholesale water provider Zone 7 is temporarily changing our primary source of supply to another surface water source and supplementing it with groundwater. We will also supplement Zone 7 supplies with local groundwater from Cal Water wells to ensure our customers continue to have a reliable supply of safe, clean water for your everyday and emergency needs.

As a result of the source change, Cal Water customers in Livermore may notice harder water than usual through December 2022.

Groundwater is typically harder than surface water because it contains more naturally occurring minerals such as calcium and magnesium.  Although the water hardness poses no health concern, it can affect the taste, odor, and color of the water, inhibit the water’s ability to create soap lather, and cause a white build-up on glassware, dishes, and plumbing fixtures.

You can prevent spotting on dishes and silverware by washing and drying them by hand or drying them immediately after they are washed in the dishwasher.  Spots can be removed with white vinegar.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and urge you to help our community weather the drought by saving water every day. Visit our Conservation section for tips and resources available to Cal Water customers.
